What does a product photographer charge?

Founders we've talked to, and the public posts and job briefs we read this year, put a finished studio photo at about $170 each (what founders report). That usually covers the photographer's time, the studio, light retouching and a few angles. Models, props, locations and lifestyle scenes cost extra.

Product Campaign Studio started with one of those quotes. A supplement founder showed me what their shoot would cost.

When the founder showed me the quote for seven thousand dollars, I was like, I cannot believe this is how much product shots cost. Don't pay the seven thousand dollars. First, let me build you a tool and just see how well it works.

What does a full shoot add up to?

The photographer is only one line. A lifestyle shoot also pays for models and how long you can use their faces, hair and makeup, styling, a director, a location, editing, and more rounds when the first ones miss.

I've seen these campaigns start, on the low end, at three to five thousand dollars, and that's just for a couple product shots, and go upwards of a hundred thousand dollars or more if you're coordinating a team of people.

What does each asset cost here?

One price per finished asset, with the full total before you pay.

Why is the gap so big?

A shoot charges for people's time on a set, and for every message passed between them. We start from the product photos you already have, build every scene and format from them, and check each picture against your real product before you see it. You still pick the direction, the people and the final shots.

The money really leaks through a game of telephone, and also trying to navigate real-world problems with scheduling.

What's the cost nobody counts?

Your own time, and your team's. Every round of feedback is a meeting, a thread and a wait, and the brief gets passed along in text, which is a poor way to describe a picture.

The cost that nobody counts is much higher than anyone would like to admit.

How much of your time does it take?

About 15 minutes per asset type. Five product shots is about 15 minutes, and lifestyle shots another 15. A full campaign across product, lifestyle, UGC-style ads, motion and banners is usually 1 to 2 hours, depending on how much back and forth you want. If you'd rather not do any of it, we can run it for you.

When is a photographer still the better choice?

When you're a big brand with a look you've refined for years and a team built around it, the result is predictable and the cost is already in the budget. Keep them. We also work from your own product photos, so if you don't have a single clear photo of a product yet, take one with your phone in good daylight first, or book a short packshot session.

Questions people ask

Do I own the pictures?

Yes. Once your order is paid, you can use the finals you approve anywhere, for as long as you like (who owns the work).

Are changes included?

Yes. Each asset type includes rounds of changes, and anything beyond your order is quoted before we start it (revision rounds).

Will the pictures look like AI?

Every picture is checked against your real product, label first, before you see it, and we say where AI images are safe to use (AI image rules).

Is there a subscription?

No. You pay per asset when you need content, which for most small brands is three or four times a year (pricing).

Is there a minimum order?

Brand setup is free and first campaigns start at $50 (pricing).
